Does R36S have Minecraft?

by R36S on Apr 03, 2025
R36S Minecraft

If you're considering picking up the R36S, the powerful retro handheld console, you might be wondering—does it run Minecraft? The answer is yes! While the official Java and Bedrock editions aren’t supported, the PSP version of Minecraft works on this device, giving you a classic block-building experience on the go.

How to Play Minecraft on the R36S

The R36S runs on an optimized Linux-based OS that allows it to emulate various gaming systems, including PlayStation Portable (PSP). This means you can load and play the PSP version of Minecraft, also known as Minecraft PSP Edition (Lamecraft Mods). To get started:

  • Download the PSP Version – You’ll need to obtain a working PSP version of Minecraft. There are different modded versions available, like Lamecraft or Revamped Editions, which enhance the original PSP homebrew version.
  • Transfer the Game – Copy the game files onto your microSD card in the appropriate PSP emulator folder.
  • Launch the Emulator – Open the PSP emulator on the R36S, locate Minecraft PSP, and start playing!

What to Expect from Minecraft on R36S?

Since this is a PSP homebrew version, it won’t have all the features of modern Minecraft editions. However, it still offers:✔️ Classic block-building gameplay✔️ Survival and creative modes✔️ Basic crafting and exploration✔️ Smooth performance on the R36S

Is It Worth Playing?

If you’re a Minecraft fan looking for an authentic experience, you may miss features like Redstone, mobs, and multiplayer. However, if you just want to build and explore in a retro-style environment, the PSP version on the R36S is a fun way to enjoy a lightweight Minecraft experience on a handheld device.

Final Thoughts

While the full-fledged Java or Bedrock versions of Minecraft aren’t supported on the R36S, the PSP edition offers a nostalgic and enjoyable alternative. With easy setup and smooth gameplay, it’s a great addition to the R36S’s library of playable games.Would you try Minecraft on the R36S? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

R36MAX Retro Handheld Game Console Linux System
V.L.

Likes:
1. A ton of games
2. Decent battery life
3. Big screen
4. Case is decent quality

Dislikes:
1. A bunch of the games don’t load
2. It has no built in wifi to update the OS. You have to go to a separate site, figure out which startup screen your system is, and correlate it to which link you use to dowload the updated OS to an sd/tf card that you then put into the system.
3. The buttons inputs don’t release. You’ll push right on the d-pad and it mechanically releases, but the game still reads that you are pushing that direction.
4. I’ve reached out a few times to customer support and haven’t received anything other than a review request. Customer service is half the star rating when I choose to review a product. Update: they responded and said to try a different emulator setting for the games that don’t work. They couldn’t help with the other issues I brought up.
5. Speaker is a bit tinny.

Wish it worked better

Been messaging the company a few times with no response. Directional inputs stick and a bunch of the roms don’t work. When it works it’s pretty fun. Speaker is a bit tinny

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out, and apologies if our previous responses didn’t come through — please check your email, as we’ve replied earlier.

For the ROM issues, you can try this fix:
From the main menu, go to Settings > Emulation Settings, then change the emulator to RetroArch. This usually resolves most compatibility problems.

As for the directional input and speaker feedback — we appreciate your honest comments. We’re always working to improve the experience and will pass this along to our team.

Let us know if you need further help — we’re happy to assist.
